This is a real stunning collectors item! It is an original mourning brooch from the Victorian era with amazing hair artwork. It is truly wonderful to gaze upon and a real Victorian curios with real human hair neatly braided behind the glass. The hair artwork is so finely created you have to look so closely to see it is all made from actual hair.
Please check photos, I've tried my best to show as much detail as possible but I still don't think the photos do it justice. The whole middle section is able to spin/swivel around so the wearer can chose which side to show. There are no obvious makers marks or hallmarks that I could see, and I believe this to be gilt or pinchbeck. There is a c clasp in good condition and a bevelled glass front and back.
This would be a wonderful edition to any collection and a must have item for any Victorian curio fan! Gold under 1g in weight are not required to be hallmarked. Therefore smaller items are often without any markings. Also, on jewellery objects made in the USA before circa 1900, it is not common to find any marks. It is very common for mourning jewellery to have no markings or hallmarks - in fact it is more unusual for them to have anyThe items pictured is what you will receive.
